(The name of this page is based on the "DIO's World" story arc from Stardust Crusaders!! :D I love the name of that arc its so clever imo)

Dio Brando, later on referred to as DIO, is one of the main antagonists of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (and I'd argue the overall main antagonist of the first universe). He appeared in Phantom Blood and Stardust Crusaders as the main antagonist, was mentioned throughout Diamond is Unbreakable, and was in some flashbacks related to Pucci in Stone Ocean.

Dio's name means "God" in Italian, but it's also a reference to the band named the same thing! Also, while Dio is referred to as a man and with he/him pronouns most of the time, the androgyne symbol is used for him in "Hirohiko Araki's New Manga Techniques." Also, if I'm not mistaken, I believe Polnareff uses they/them on Dio at least once, and Avdol says Dio has the "kind of sensuality you wouldn't expect from a man."

Dio is a vampire! But he's not only a vampire, he also gains a Stand in Stardust Crusaders as well! His Stand is The World, representing the "The World" tarot card, #21 of the major arcana.

Dio is the adoptive brother of Jonathan Joestar, also! Dio gave his father, Dario, poison, and before he died, Dario told Dio to go to the Joestars, resulting in Jonathan's father adopting Dio! While the two are enemies, in the end of Phantom Blood, Dio admits to having a sort of respect for Jonathan, though not a normal respect for him - more in the way that Jonathan was useful for him to become stronger and better. Also, Dio says in Stardust Crusaders that he doesn't fear the Joestars but they shouldn't be underestimated, and his goal was to eliminate the remaining members of the Joestar family.

Dio was my very first favorite character from JJBA! Actually, I had interest in him before I even read or watched it! I had some friends that I believe had some level of interest in the series, and some of the games I played had references, AND I'd seen some memes (most being specifically Dio references). Eventually I learned a little more about the series and saw more about Dio and I thought he seemed really cool! When I first read the first book of the series on May 8th, 2025, I immediately liked him. I think only a few days after I read and watched some of the series I made him my profile picture on Discord! He's also, as a result of this, my very first F/O from JJBA :3 I love Dio sosososo much and he makes me super happy! In all honesty, as weird as it sounds, I consider him to be pretty cute lol. I know that's kinda weird since he's a vampire and doesn't seem like something that'd be considered cute but he totally is in my eyes!! I think most of it is his fangs, though... I love whenever they're visible in an image cuz he just looks extra cute to me when they are!
